Mastercard – a prominent provider of financial services – has indicated to move into the metaverse by submitting 15 trademark apps dealing with NFT (non-fungible tokens). As per one of the trademark applications submitted under the U.S. Patents and Trademarks Office, Mastercard intends to offer virtual payments across the metaverse, as well as the rest of the virtual worlds.

Apart from a virtual version of the chief services offered by it, more applications disclosed the ambition of Mastercard to additionally host the consumers thereof in the respective virtual atmospheres. For example, through trademark app #97346029 Mastercard aims to offer virtual environments where the consumers are permitted to interact for leisure, shopping, networking, educational, recreational, and entertainment purposes along with hosting and creating an online community for virtual worlds, metaverses, NFTs or digital assets.

Mastercard to develop an online marketplace

By creating the respective virtual spaces, Mastercard focuses on developing an online marketplace for sellers as well as purchasers of downloadable media and digital goods authenticated on the behalf of the NFTs (non-fungible tokens), as per the trademark app #97346112. A thorough series of NFT and metaverse-related trademark apps submitted by Metaverse was shared through a Twitter post of Mike Kondoudis (the trademark attorney of USPTO).

They additionally take into account the trademarks for the brand title of Mastercard, its famous tagline, as well as the well-known circles logo across the virtual world. Formerly this year, a collaboration was formed between Mastercard as well as Coinbase (a crypto exchange based in the United States) to provide the consumers with the facilities to purchase NFTs.

Payments across the metaverse

Mastercard does not count to be the sole company among the renowned providers of payment services that are becoming a part of the crypto space via the relevant patent submissions. In 2020, a patent app was filed by Visa to develop a digital token and has also been engaged in creating a local digital token on the card networks thereof. The opponent giant in payments declared the desire thereof to initiate a worldwide service for crypto advisory in the earlier period of this year.

In the meantime, nearly seven applications have been submitted by American Express to enter the metaverse. These took account of branding with concierge and payment card services over NFT marketplaces.
